About This App

If you have ever asked a generator for a normal map and gotten back a quilted pillow, you already know the trouble. Most tools treat a dark patch as a hole in the ground. That works on a photograph of a rock. It makes a fool of painted art, because a shadow under an arm is a choice the artist made, not a dent in the tin. Totally Normal Mapper starts with the outline instead, the one fact a sprite cannot lie about, and solves for a surface that fits. Then you paint in the rest: which limb sits in front, which wall is flat, which fold is only ink. It exports for Unity, Godot, Unreal, and the raw OpenGL or DirectX flavors. Windows, for now. Wishlist it on Steam if you have a mind to. The knight on this page comes from rodrigodmoreira/nmap-generation, used under the MIT license, and we are obliged to say so.
